I am a student. Whoever compiles this 'crimewatch' feature is a sorry individual who attempts to provide a name for himself while taking advantage of the bad decisions of others. Sure this person was arrested for making a bad decision and the court system and university will deliver the proper punishment, but 'crimewatch' continues to broadcast and exploit these other students. You're journalistic belief in "free speech" is nothing more than a pathetic attempt to make yourself feel important.
You do realize that this is public information, right? If somebody actually wanted to find an arrest record, they could either go to the police station (why they'd do this is beyond me) or google it. I just find this stuff hilarious especially since I know 10 of the people on this massive list. It's simply for entertainment, not to make whoever got arrested feel bad. So James, I'm guessing you're on the list?
I agree with James. My best friend made a bad decision while at UGA and was on this list. It has followed her since graduation. Just goes to show that decisions made at the age of 18 can follow you even when you are 23.
A large majority of newspapers provide crime information to the public as a service to the community. It doesn't mean they are trying to exploit the mistakes of others. I think citizens have a right to know if crime is occurring near their homes. If you don't want to end up in the paper don't commit crimes. These are all grown individuals not little kids. I know we all make mistakes but mistakes come with their consequences.
I agree with Another Student. If you do the crime you pay the fine; it just so happens that it includes being publically embarrassed. People gossip anyway, they were bound to get chastised somehow or another.
