Billy Humphrey arrested

Abstract:
The Georgia men's basketball team suffered a let down Wednesday night after losing its fourth straight game, but hours later life grew a little worse for one of its players.

Point guard Billy Humphrey was arrested at 2:12 a.m. Thursday and charged with underage possession and failure to obey a traffic control device by the Athens Clarke County police....

That is absolutely ludicrous. Some bad apples may be apparent, but few are. Keep in mind, he's charged with something that happens to about 40 percent of students at UGA.

If you blame anyone, blame Humphrey - Felton had no doings in this. As a matter of fact, there's an article about UGA a few months back on ESPN on how more STRINGENT we are than other major universities.

Hey little Sam,
I think you don't know how to read, because the 40% you are referring to is for Greek members, not the entire University. Good try though. May be you should look at athlete statistics and see how the basketball team compares to the rest of the athletic teams. Again, I blame Felton!

Oh yeah by the way Sam, I read that article on ESPN. They wrote that when we were like 6-0 or 7-1 and had played absolutely nobody. You think they would write that same article today when we are 11-9, 2-5 in the SEC, and Felton is 8-42 on the road, and we lose yet another starter? Highly doubt it. That early season record was just a cover up because we were barely beating teams such as Augusta State. ESPN forgot to mention that.

Oh Sam how naive you are. This is entirely Dennis "I Suck at Being a Basketball Coach" Felton's fault. If the University had stuck with a true champion like Herrick, Felton never would have been hired and thus the Georgia basketball team would never have been subjected to him and his scrub players like Billy Humphrey, "Mr. Third Team All-State Wisconsin" Dave Bliss, Mike "I look like a Ninja Turtle" Mercer, Rashaad Singleton, Albert Jackson, etc....

this is a bad situation, but i don't think that billy deserves to be suspended by the university due to this arrest. i know that it more than likely violates the terms of his probation and he is responsible for his actions, but i feel this arrest should be treated as a first offense. his earlier ordeal about having a weapon on campus was unintentional and never a threat to the community. the weapon was simply a souvenir of a past trip and he was unaware that it violated any policies. hopefully billy's education will not be subject to suspension because what has occurred.

The real problem is Felton! Felton probably told the team after the game they suck and the season was over and then started blaming all the problems on Harrick. I don't blame Billy for trying to get a little buzz to relieve the stress of a terrible coach.

felton isn't the problem either. felton came into a bad situation from the start and sadly some of the players he has recruited haven't been making the best decisions. i don't think billy should be labeled as one of those players, but because he is an athlete all of his actions are in the spotlight. it's unfair to judge or simply put the blame on one person.

I just read on the other BBall article that Coach Dennis Felton is an Atheist and does not allow them to pray before games. If this is true, there is your problem. This is why his players are getting arrested, quitting, and not going to class. I like the idea of hiring Bob Knight.

Are you people crazy!!! Recruit correctly, what the hell are y'all talking about? There is no way Dennis Felton could have seen this coming! There is only one person to blame, Billy Humphrey! He is the one who was charged with "underage possession and failure to obey a traffic control device," and he is the one who was charged with "felony possession of a weapon on school property." As stupid as the last charge was, felony possession for a butterfly knife, those are the rules, and he is the one who broke them. Now he needs to take responsibility for his actions, something many college age students need to learn as well!

Yo, Jeremy you stupid or something. Harrick was my dog, for real. I had money, cash, ho's, rides, whatever I needed. What does Felton give his players? Scooters and losses! Harrick was real concerned about us, unlike Dennis and his players. Son, buy those kids a yacht or something that is ballin.

Anyways, the team looks bad on the court. That is the bottom line. No offensive strucure and bad defense That's why we need to fire Felton. I think all of the off the court junk is related to Felton as well. It is the Coaches job to make sure that Athens is the right place for the players, and Felton is obviously not doing his job with that. He is too strict on the players and is not relating to them very well.

i'm not billy humprhey and it's fine that you think he should be suspended, but i don't. i think he's here to receive an education and that taking that opportunity away would be wrong. of course he should serve some punishment through athletics, but not academic punishment as well. felton isn't to blame, billy just made a bad choice, something nearly all college age students do at somepoint. his just happens to be breaking news whereas most others' bad decisions go unnoticed.

In all seriousnous, Coach Dennis Felton might be trying to relate to the fans by taking questions before the game, but he obviously does not listen to his players. His players are having problems and he is waiting until they get in trouble, then he punishes them harshly. These players do not relate to Coach Felton, so they are afraid to approach him.

Next home game, I'm going to the game early to ask Coach Felton how much longer he thinks he'll be around.

Straight from the AJC:

"Felton, considered a no-nonsense disciplinarian, was asked if he thought there was a discipline problem on his team. He dismissed the team's top two players - Takais Brown and Mike Mercer - before the season for repeated athletic department and teams rules violations."

Billy Knight

Coach Felton,
You will always have a spot on the Hawks staff when Georgia gives you the boot. You will be in charge of teaching the Landlord one decent post move since he is lacking any noticable talent. We need someone to instill discipline into the team and you're the man for the job. In fact, you won't even be a coach, more of a chaperon for road games.

At some point the people of Athens are going to have to demand change. Luckily, a high profile story like this highlights what idiots the Athens Clarke County UGA police force are.

But it's not just athletes: it's everybody. I'm not at all in favor of the police protecting athletes, or ignoring their indiscretions.

I am in favor of a police force that has some common sense. That is not out to get people. That recognizes their responsibility to protect the public does not mean harassing people who aren't hurting or bothering a soul.

And to all you neo-prohibitionist do-gooders out there: eat crap and die--so to speak.

We're sick of your insistence on taking people's public rights away. We're sick of your making alcohol out to be evil Satan juice. We're sick of your using the legal system to enforce your religious views (though, as a Christian, I have no clue why or how you ever came to that conclusion).

As I've said in here before. How on earth can we have any respect for a police force that has lost all sense of common sense and integrity? When someone can get a ticket (or arrested) for walking across a street on gameday from one parking lot to another and be arrested for having a beer in his/her hand!! How damn dumb is that! Respect? You have got to be kidding me.
