Numerous student felony arrests not explainable (w/incident reports)

Abstract:
In the last month, six students were arrested and charged with felonies, but despite the arrests police said they don't see a trend.

"There is nothing in my numbers to see a spike in crime," University Police Chief Jimmy Williamson said Monday in an interview....

It should be noted that Felony crimes are up in Athens more so than the rest of the state or counties with the same population. Lowndes County (Valdosta) has the same amount of people as Clarke yet they are very aggressive when it comes to drugs, gangs, and thugs in general and their crime is not through the roof like Athens. Athens is ran by a liberal sissy mayor and commissioners who wont allow ACCPD to crack down on thugs.

not an accurate comparison

ACC has a population of around 100k. Lowndes has a population of around 92k.

Clarke County is 121 square miles and the smallest land mass county in the state. Lowndes is 510 square miles and the 27th largest county in the state based on land mass (159 counties).

The population density of Clarke County is much, much denser. Lowndes is much more rural with numerous incorporated cities spread through out the county.

It's not that the "liberal sissy mayor and commissioners" won't allow the ACCPD to "crack down on thugs," it's that real, violent, damaging crime has taken a backseat to the "horrors" visited upon the populace of the County by underage drinkers. If the police in ACC, both ACCPD and UGAPD spent even a quarter of the time that they spend on harassing students downtown on actual police work, I daresay that Athens would be a shining beacon of low crime.

Mr. Carlson, where do you get your facts. I went and looked at the arrests made by UGAPD this past weekend, and they only arrested one person for underage drinking. So you mean to tell me that of all the people in athens this weekend who were drinking underage, uga only arrested one of them. How does that amount to harassing students?

Why ask UGA?

All of the arrests mentioned in the article happened off of campus (at least the incident reports are all from the ACCPD). Why is the UGA PD chief being questioned about them?

You may want to consider an idiot tag for yourself. If you are going to take an anonymous keyboard slam at somebody at least get their name correct.

UGA police are unfortunately feeling the neccesity of proving themselves to the ACC dept. due to a divide in an impoverished town run by college kids and their wealthy dynastic families.
