Why is there an alert system if no one is going to use it.

I agree. If there's been a crisis yet that would justify activating the alert system, this was it. I was in the area and the police were constantly having to turn people away who didn't know SLC was closed. If the alert had been activated, it may have kept people out of the area.

No kidding. Wonderful use of funds, UGA.

Because Michael Adams doesnt want to use it unless there is a real emergency. This was just a threat and they had found no bomb so no reason to alarm the whole campus and alert the national news media and create a huge frenzy. I think they made the right decision. UGA gets bomb threats all the time, you just dont hear about them unless the building has to be closed. You would be surprised at the number of threats UGA receives from groups like PETA threatening to blow up animal research facilities. Should UGA "alert" you every time they receive a threat? No.

There needs to be a system to notify students and faculty that a building has been shut down due to what ever the reason(like a water main break or a bomb threat) and a notification that the building has been re-opened at such time and classes will resume.

Nah because that would make too much sense. hell yes they should alert us every time theres a threat; at least to stay away from the area and that classes are cancelled. good use of millions of dollars georgia. idiots

I think that if it was enough of a threat for police and bomb dogs to investigate the building, I would have liked to have been alerted as to that fact! Good job morons.

Right, you all know good and well that if they sent out an alert that there was a bomb threat, everybody that had class in the SLC would have skipped. Clearly, if there was a significant threat, they would have cleared the area and not allowed people to sit in front of the SLC waiting to get back in. There's no sense in getting people excited about a threat by itself. I'm sure if there was an actual bomb or resemblance of a bomb, then they would have taken necessary action.
