As a rising senior I renewed my lease the last week of exams in the spring. Before taking my last exam, I was diagnosed with primative neuroectodermal sarcoma of the kidney. Instead of taking my biology exam I was having my left kidney removed. They removed my kidney along with a sarcoma about the size of a small soccer ball. When I was told that I would have to withdraw from school for nine months of aggressive chemotherapy I immediately contacted the Ivey Company of Athens, Inc. 1867 W. Broad Street, PO BOX 32,Athens, Georgia 30603-0032, Phone#706-369-5172, attention Sue Evans, to rescind my lease agreement which was not even due to start until August. I was basically told TOO BAD!... they would not allow me to cancell the lease under any circumstances. My parents tried to interceed for me when I was too ill to hold my head up, but the company refused to talk with them. The letter from my doctor was good enough for UGA but not for the preditory landlords in Athens. Does the Peer Financial Counceling Group have any suggestions for me.
