What a tragedy, one which might possibly have been avoided by the simple act of fastening a seat belt. It seems that the time of year which is near the end of school contains tragedy for students, usually following some group activity. Falling asleep at the wheel can happen so quickly it's unnoticeable until the driver suddenly wakes and then often overcorrects as this driver apparently did. My sympathy to all those involved in this tragic accident - I'm not one for thinking that it is government's duty to protect us from ourselves, but this one about seat belts is just common sense in this day of speed and vehicles made of collapsible metal and plastic. A night of fun turned into tragedy in a heartbeat.

Georgia state law actually doesn't protect you from yourself in this case, CoastalDawg. It is perfectly legal to ride in the back of a car with no seatbelt so long as you are at least 18 years of age.

Regardless, this is terrible news. It's always so hard to see someone so young leave so early.
