As Mr. Lee pointed out.. "You wouldn't walk out of Best Buy with a CD in your pocket or purse, and that's the same thing"....... Well that's not really the same thing. That's shoplifting. The "same" thing would be recording the song off the radio with a cassette recorder, like I did a hundred times as a kid.

1) New CDs aren't always in the standard format nowadays. You could buy the CD only to discover that your old CD player can't play it. You can't return it after it's been opened so why buy CDs in the first place?
2) If everyone is walking around with iPods or other MP3 players aren't they probably buying their music online anyway?
3) Why doesn't anyone do a survey of how many people buy the stuff they download?
4) Why doesn't anyone do a survey of how many people download the stuff they bought because it didn't work (usually due to DRM)?
5) If online movie services can come up with a way to let you rent a downloaded movie that expires in a week then why can't they do that with music? Let people download a trial of an album the same way you can download a trial of a software program.
Seriously, who makes enough money to buy all the cd's they want. I think the music industry should focus more on making money via shows; like on tv, radio, stage, advertising (of products that cannot be pirated, like soap!), album tours, etc. etc.
If the music then, were legally free, it would be circulating a lot faster, making the artists very popular, and a popular artist can make more money using stage shows, tv appearances, etc. Basically I'm saying they need to work harder. The old days of cassette players are over (even that had copying problems). The internet had brought along some problems. The conservative ways of trying to control it using tracking and lawsuits are just going to turn people away from main stream music. The world is globalizing, and growing like hell, so adopt and try new ways to survive, instead to resisting and making enemies.
I like music online, I don't have to waste batteries to my CD Player you know. There's nothing wrong after downloading it for a few days and delete it later. It's a good way to know if the product is good or not. I hate it when the tracks aren't as great as people said and I end up regretting ever buying it.
A thief is someone who you can NEVER trust. I am amazed that so many CHILDREN are downloading illegal material and think it is okay. How would YOU feel if someone was able to download ANY & ALL personal, medical, scholastic, and of course, facebook material?
