You guys are undoubtedly right: you did win. And while all of us want the Department of Homeland Security and every contractor connected with building and equipping the lab to ensure that the specifications and the construction itself are what they should be, there will inevitably be an accident. Those of us living close by can only hope that it will be so confined that only a minimum of livestock and people suffer.
Having such a lab is, of course, important for national security. Too bad the Plum Island facility couldn't have been updated or upgraded to meet the standards now necessary.
We NIMBYs lost this one; the number of new relatively high-paying jobs to be created was just too tempting.
