Our Take

Abstract:
Protection policySure, guns and bombs are dangerous, but what about car keys and pencils? Police educate incoming freshmen at orientation and send out an e-mail to University students during the fall semester, outlining the "zero tolerance" Georgia law that prohibits a weapon on or within 1,000 feet of any school-owned property....

As a graduate student with undergraduate horticultural experience, I would like to point out that locally grown products do not necessarily mean that products are grown organically. Organic agriculture refers to the production of produce using non-synthetic chemical products, such as pesticides. Supporting locally-grown agricultural products, simply refers to purchasing products that are produced within geographic region or area. This ensures that produce reaches our tables as fresh as possible, and while locally grown products may also cost more, it does not mean that the cost is due to being produced organically.

The majority opinon of the Red & Black's editoral staff regarding "Protection Policy" borders on ridiculous. Sometimes I think you (the editors) think these things up just to inject controversy & draw responses. Well you have succeeded.
Most rational people natively understand the difference between a gun or bomb vs a key or pencil. When a key is sold over the counter society has a right to expect that the purchaser will use it as intended; to open doors, start cars etc. However, when one sells a hand gun, rifle, or an "assault weapon" society has a right to expect what? To use it as intended?? Guns & Bombs have no reason to exist save to kill something living. This act instinctively, intuitively, or logically tells you it has to be controlled.
