Immigration debate to raise political awareness, interest

Abstract:
With Super Tuesday around the corner and the pressure building on candidates to come out on top, the issues are getting lost in the shuffle, and the University's chapter of Roosevelt Institute wants to change that.

The group is hosting a debate on immigration Monday in the Student Learning Center, they said, just in time for students, faculty and staff to head to the polls....

What value is this debate except to influence shallow thinkers to permit and accept more illegal immigration?
Without controlling immigration and upholding U.S. immigration law, the future of this nation is dim, there will be eventual chaos.
Democrats want all illegal residents to gain a path to citizenship despite being a burdun to social services and the educational system. This is very foolish.
Rome tried something like that ages ago. The Empire failed. If you love the invaders so much, and wish to destroy what generations behind you have maintained and defended, go ahead and side with the squatters and illegals. It is your responsibility. It takes courage to set aside our system. Just be very sure you know the outcome, and will accept changes demanded by those who have no business to be here in the first place...

I think what the University of Georgia is trying to accomplish is very sound and good for improving the United States public policy.

The debate is often framed by the fringe with extreme points of view while the moderate voices are overshadowed. We need to marginalize these dark and very narrow views and shed light on all the facts.

We held a screening of my film "American Harvest" which was followed by an immigration conference at Hobart and William Smith Colleges that was very successful. The reason why it was so successful was that it encouraged reasonable and rational debate.

Since then the Eisenhower institute has invited us to be a part of a similar forum at Gettysburg College in March.

The Eisenhower Institute's mission is to promote nonpartisan discourse concerning public policy in America. As a legacy of the late President, Dwight Eisenhower they are most admirable and no doubt patriotic in their affairs.

I applaud the University of Georgia for bringing their community together to promote civil discourse. Please encourage more discussions like this. It does work.

We need to compromise on immigration reform and we need to encourage reasonable and rational debate on the immigration issue and all other aspects of American politics.
