A donation to your local animal shelter in lieu of a gift is a great idea during this time of economic hardship and is in true keeping with the Christmas spirit. I would much rather know that a homeless puppy or kitten has been spared his or her life because of me that get a gift card or a scented candle. When your friends and family ask for gift suggestions why not mention a donation to the Athens Area Humane Society or another favorite animal charity! Likewise, a donation in someone's name is the perfect gift for animal lovers or for that person who has everything.

Kudos to Forgotten Friends for their efforts!
