Hit me, Bennett, one more time

Abstract:
What's next, confession booths on North Campus? Will we have to tell administrators if we committed a sin over the weekend? From the looks of the headlines lately, it could happen. Whether you ate your roommate's food out of the fridge or left the toilet seat up in your girlfriend's apartment, you better go tell Rodney Bennett, our vice president of student affairs....

What about modifying the code to where convicted felons have to report, not simple misdemeanors!

Or even felony arrests, even if not proven guilty. A felony arrest case can sit on the desk of Big Brother until a trial, or the student can be on probation, depending on the felony arrest, and further judgment can be used based on the arrest. Often, a trial takes too long, and a student may not be given a fair trial until after graduation.

So I say get rid of the misdemeanor arrests notifications, and make it felony.

Lord knows I should have been arrested at times for being too loud in public, or even going 35 over on the road, but that doesn't make me a threat in the class room

"Or even felony arrests, even if not proven guilty."

Let me justify that. I am not saying that once they are proven not guilty, to still punish. But a felony arrest usually requires pretty good evidence.

By the way.. where were the Athens police officers on Saturday when I saw tons of drunk alumni, well beyond their 40s, stumbling around and having a hard time standing up?

Do we have to report crimes in other countries? Seriously.

And what about US territories?

Mr. McAfee,
I bet you find it funny when people say that you have a 'rapist wit' don't you? It's people like you that are so insensitive and are all too willing to throw around terms such as rapist without fully accounting for those who have suffered from such disgusting crimes. I bet you have never even taken women studies 1101 or surely you would be more in touch with a woman's perspective!

You people are too sensitive. Yes, its a crying shame that what happened to you happened, but no matter what he put, murderer, stalker, rapist, theif, racist, etc., someone will tell him he is too sensitive.

Someone might be upset like you if he put stalker, because they might be a victim of stalking.
Someone might be upset like you if he put thief, because someone very prized was stolen from him or her.
Someone might be upset like you if he put murderer, because they might have a mother who was killed by their father in a domestic case.

Get the hell over the fact that he put that, as he wasn't attacking anyone. He was just making a point. As a victim, are you also standing up to any comments that are derogatory to women? Do you ALWAYS stand up to guys when they whistle at a woman, or tell compliment her by yelling from a moving car?

C'mon now. You need counseling if you take this to heart. Many women are victims, and learn to judge when someone is being insensitive versus making a point.

There is a CAPS office at the University Health Center that could help--Crisis and Psychiatric Services. Some group therapy might help you out, and maybe not make you as sensitive to such a benign comment.

No harm in telling you to go there, but I really mean it. As a victim, you have to learn how to deal with issues like this, and how to judge them.
Good luck

I meant "too insensitive" in the first part.

If something's not broken then don't try and fix it. It's as simple as that. We are facing serious budget cuts which are directly affecting students in their studies through the lack of buses and supplies. I apologize to the administration but quit wasting your time trying to pass stupid pointless policies that are attempts to fix something that has no need to be fixed. Rather spend your time trying to find ways to save/find more money. Or better yet, quit wasting salary paying people to come up with these pointless policies. Clearly if they have time to come up with this kind of crap then their should be a serious consideration of whether it is really necessary to waste this type a salary.

What is it that really is urging the administration to push this policy? I believe we, the directly affected students, deserve an explanation of this. I feel as if their is some alternative motive behind the strong push for this...
