Who still regards essay writing as a means of punishment? Is having to write a "research paper" going to make an individual magically want to change their ways?

I demand the office of judicial programs write me a detailed research paper highlighting the effectivness of essay writing as a part of the justice system.

Make sure its in the right format or you'll have to do it again.

Has anyone ever done a study regarding the percentage of football players who are arrested vs. University students at large?

Unfortunately, most players fall into one of two categories - perpetrators or prima donnas. Coddling and housing and feeding them away from the student body at large only encourages these types of behavior.

Whatever happened to the real student athlete?

Don't forget Jim, most players fall into a plethora of other dubious categories..... rapists, gun-toters, racists, drunkards, bullies, closet homosexuals, point-shavers, eager recipents of illegal alumni funds, steroid abusers, solicitors of crack whore prostitutes (anyone remember Charles Grant?), drug dealers, and drug consumers. Seems to the Bobster that KA, SAE, and the football players should just combine into one large fraternity so that they may inflict as much collective damage on the community and then use their extensive connections to escape all punishment. It'd be like an untouchable mafia on campus. The Bobster thinks if UGA is going to have the rep it does, they may as well embrace it.

Bobster, you were bullied a lot as a child, weren't you? I didn't know it was possible to work in that many stereotypes in a single nonsensical diatribe.

Jim, what's fairly ridiculous about your comment is that there is a tremendous double standard when it comes to student athletes. Boling was arrested in 80 miles from Athens. I'd be willing to go out on a limb and bet that a fair chunk of college students manage to get arrested at some point, in some location, during their college years. I know I did. I know at least 8 of the guys just on my floor of my dorm, just my freshman year did too. That's about 20% of them. Way higher than the number of freshmen on the football team who got arrested that year.

And Lomax's arrest is just ridiculous. Had his gun been in any other location in his car, then there is no violation. And the law is set to change so that what he was arrested for will no longer be a violation. Had he done that same thing 6 months from now, no arrest.

So give this tired, ignorant, biased argument a rest.

I'm not talking just about these two but all of the other arrests over the past ten years and you can lump in the basketball players while you are at it. It's out of control.

I don't think it's out of control at all. Last year there were a handful or arrests of football players. 3 of them involved scooters. 2 of them involved players walking home after drinking instead of getting behind the wheel and driving.

this year there have been a few that have all been fairly mild and nothing anyone should be concerned about.

Sure there's been some ugly stuff in the past, but the current coaching staffs are doing a great job at weeding out trouble makers and helping most of these young kids learn how to live on their own for the first time.

Don't just generalize (it's out of control...) Prove something.

And you started this by suggesting it was worse that the larger student body. Again, I don't have anything to compare it to other than my freshmen dorm and I'd say things were far more out of control in that particular setting. I'd be happy to go through the list of arrests I remember from that group if you'd like.
