What if the Red and Black hadn't tarnished their otherwise excellent reporting of the Zinkhan case by running this amateur, ridiculous piece of conjecture?

That would have been awesome.

Yeh really. Way to bring up the most horrible lifetime memories for these people.

What is frightening is this is NOT the first time a similar situation has existed on campus. I am personally familiar with one such case -- everyone in the office was terrified the clearly disturbed individual was going to bring in a gun and kill us all. After months of enabling his behavior, a man who has now risen up the ranks of administration had to be forced to fire the offender by an incoming vice president. Despite this, the person was almost *re-hired* by the university until his original victims found out and protested. Protecting their fellow males is part of the problem. Awareness of this likely led to the university's overblown reaction in the week following the tragedy.

Over it

Months have past and wounds have started to heal. Please put this case to rest as those who knew people that were lost that day are just now trying to get their lives back in order and constant reminders in the paper are not needed.

Ms. Cook needs to be applauded for her
effort in bringing us this well-needed
follow up & revealing information involving
the Zinkhan case.
It is good to know that UGA has a
Behavioral Assessment & Response Council
for both students and faculty.
If we were more responsible and aware of
unethical and inappropriate behavior,it might
make a big difference.

You state that 'It is clear that no administrators or members of Zinkhan's hiring committee knew about the case when he was hired in 1994..." I don't think this is true. First of all, gossip travels fast among marketing academics and in comments to an earlier story about Zinkhan, a former UGA doctoral student indicated that they ALL knew about Zinkhan's problems. UGA was in such a hurry to fill the position, it is clear they ignored valuable information.

The Red & Black is a tabloid and they don't seem to care.

Did anyone else catch the hand written note from "Chuck" referring to "Rod Platt" investigating one of the incidents.
Chuck Horton was the UGA police chief at the time and Rob Platt the chief of detectives at the time.
This shows that the UGA Police looked into his and others behavior to see if any crime had occurred and no one wanted to participate in any criminal investigation.

no such thing

"Students walking to and from their final exams saw men carrying semi-automatic assault rifles."

There is no such thing as a semi-automatic assault rifle. By definition, an assault rifle must be capable of select fire, which means it must have the capacity to shoot in burst fire or fully automatic mode in addition to semi-auto mode.

The AR-15 rifles that were carried by the UGAPD around campus were not select fire weapons. They are semi-auto only. Therefore, they were not assault rifles.

Padding around barefoot, with an untucked shirt -- and eating food from the garbage? Why, Tammy, that DOES sound "attractive, in a mysterious way."

You marketing folks really do know how to sell the sizzle....
