What the Chief said is correct and makes since. Why create a larger incident out of just a verbal threat? UGA receieves bomb threats more often than the paper knows about. If they used the UGA alert and caused a huge state of panic over nothing that would create more problems. The SLC has had threats before, I recall a bag of muffins the bomb squad responded to before last year. I think the police did the right thing. If the UGA alert was used all the time no one would take it seriously. There was no on going threat to campus or students, the building was evacuated so there is no need to cause a huge panic for the thousands of people on campus. This is another example of the red and black trying to stir crap up over nothing. The UGA police has a professional bomb squad (unlike most universities in the US) and they handled it just fine. Stop whining, the police know what they are doing. All they had was third party info about a possible bomb, it was obviously false and the police are investigating. I think what should be of more concern is why the SLC has NO cameras. The main library had no cameras until after the arson and with thr amount of thefts at the SLC and being a 24 hour building I think the SLC needs cameras. It certainly would have helped in this case.

How is an email or a text message going to make you any more safe??? The police blocked off the building so there was no danger of anyone going inside, I see no reason to scare the whole campus??? This article is retarded.

So much for signing up for UGA alert. I thought the point of it was to warn students about this sort of thing. No wonder more people didn't sign up.
