What has the expensive, in human and economic terms, war in Iraq accomplished and why should it not be ended immediately?
No enlightenment from these great elder statesmen about this question was there? When other countries attack us either on our own soil or soil we control elsewhere, we are indignant. But we expect indulgence when we fight wars and kill many innocent men, women and children on other people's lands. One set of rules for us, another set of hypocritical rules for others. The book "The Ugly American" was first published about 60 years ago but we learned nothing from it. The foreign policy of the U.S. is largely made in secret by unelected elitists, many with Ph.D. degrees from the Ivy League, outside of any citizen control; witness, that neither the Democrats or the Republicans could end the Iraq war notwithstanding the obvious enormous public sentiment for that act. It is still going on, and for what purpose? Notice also the issue of oil and energy independence was not mentioned. It is tragic that the internal combustion engine "won" the battle with the steam engine for development of the automobile over a century ago. For if we had had 100 years of development of the steam engine (which can operate on any low grade fuel, including the burning of firewood if necessary) to produce steam, we would be energy independent today! Even the nuclear submarine operates with a steam turbine engine. The nuclear power, if used directly as fuel, would simply "melt" the pistons or turbine, but it produces the steam to run the engine. The many problems of foreign policy basically revolve around religion and oil. While we can't do much about religious prejudice, we could have done something about oil independence a long time ago if our politicians and business "leaders" would take some action for a change and take their heads out of the sand. We need to begin development of viable steam engines for transportation immediately. The late Bill Lear, before his death, spent about $100 million of his own resources proving this is viable in the California Steam Bus Project during the 1970's. Everybody ignored this genius level inventor with little formal education. But he was right. How long before people get the message we must end our love affair with oil for energy? And what happened to the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Do you think we should have nuclear reactors in each of our automobiles? Steam is not a source of power, only a means to convert energy. We used to have steam powered cars and locomotives, yet it was not as efficient and it was much more dangerous. Steam is not even in the discussion about energy independence. What we need are new SOURCES of energy to solve the energy independence problem.

Glad my tuition money is paying for a bunch of war criminals desperate to repair their tarnished legacies the oppurtunity to lecture me about how to solve the problems that they created in the first place. Albright? Shouldn't she be standing trial at The Hague right now? Kissinger? It's a disgrace that our town gave these thugs and cowards a soapbox for an evening.

Winfield J. Abbe once again is here preaching to a computer of how to change the world. I read the R&B everyday and it always seems to happen that Winfield J. Abbe has something very intelligent to say. Today that piece of advice is that we need steam powered cars. I hope this was a joke, but sadly I think he is serious. Steam turbine engines in cars. Are YOU serious? Let's chop down every tree in America to power these cars or let everyone have access to nuclear material. I don't believe that our dependence on foreign oil needs to stop, but this is not the answer. STEAM POWERED CARS!?

Kyle, I'm sorry. My father feels like he does the world a service by getting on here and ranting. My mother and I have tried to tell him to stop and quit embarrassing the family, but he just keeps doing it. You don't realize the shame I live with every time he posts an idiotic rant on here.

Stapler, you hit it right on the head. Took the 3-2 count and knocked it clear out of the park.
