Her state has been republican for a long time and has the largest surplus of any state. All she is required to do is spend tons of money and never has had to balance a strained budget. You're insane. This is not 1776. Things change and America must change with them or be left behind, as is happening right now. You must think FDR's New Deal was the most horrible thing in American history if you think that today our country is becoming socialist. The financial problem started all the way back with our own beloved Jimmy Carter and his Community Reinvestment Act, bolstered by Bill Clinton's mandate that banks lend to people who could least afford to pay them back and then the ultimatums or ultimata if you prefer issued by Fannie and Freddie to upgrade the status of would be borrowers so that they could make lend money to more unqualified people and thus pad the pockets of those organizations and the officers at the top. It has all been under Democratic command as has been the denial of offshore and domestic drilling for oil that is KNOWN to be available to us. So go ahead, change this country and make it like any other big government country, take away more freedoms and place us in the hands of a man whose very beginnings are questionable and who has only alluded to possibilities that he wants to initiate. Combine that with his becoming commander in chief of our military and you have the "perfect storm" coming along to tear us apart. Sarah Palin presents what America has said it was all about through the years: a family who have been together since their one and only marriage to each other; children, including one that many would never have had because they prefer to murder unborn children rather than be inconvenienced; a working family, husband included; flaws as we all have, including a daughter who like MOST of the students on the campus now couldn't wait for sex until she was married but instead became pregnant - the plan is to marry the father but that is really none of our business; other flaws in that Governor Palin may not speak the way this so highly educated author must speak, although his spelling isn't exactly on target in at least one instance. Being less than 10 miles from Russia makes Alaska the first line of defense if anything should ever happen and their national guard, with commander in chief - you guess it- Governor Sarah Palin is on constant call. She took corruption out of her own government and recently has been accused and found "guilty" of firing someone because of budget restrictions, not a crime even in the eyes of that group who so conveniently decided to do that and release that information less than one month before an election. Next time use real facts in your article, son, not some tripe that you think you have learned in your twenty or so years on earth, a time when all of this was brewing under the surface but all seemed well. If you really WANT a future, if you really WANT to be able to make and save some money IF you can find a job, you'd better reconsider your "thesis" here. The ignorance of Coastal Dawg is exemplified in his misspelling of the Democratic candidate for president's first name. This article rambles on for seemingly no purpose about someone having to face diversity in his or her life, and Al Sharpton, and Joy Behar, two people in no way associated with Obama's campaign. The fact that the author continues to cite "The View" and Ms. Behar is laughable, and completely illogical. Ms. Behar is not even a political pundit, and if you follow this line of reasoning the author must receive most of his news from Ms. Behar's colleague Elizabeth Hasselbeck who is just as uninformed as the rest of the ladies on "The View." I am not going to waste anymore of my time with this article because I know I will not sway CoastalDawg's mind about anything he or she ignorantly spouts out as fact and his silly Fox News style rants on separation of church and state and family values. I just hope that we can all wake the fuck up in this country and begin to think for ourselves and stop paying attention to any mainstream media outlet whether it be the ladies on "CoastalDawg's" must watch "View," "Countdown," or "Hannity and Colmes."

If you honestly believe that, then you deserve what you get. Sure, Sarah Palin is great. She's hot. She reminds me of my mom, probably does the same for you. Or a pit bull, only with lipstick. But here's the ultimate litmus test: Do you think your mother (or mine) is qualified to be Vice President of the United States? I don't know your mother, but I'm absolutely certain that mine isn't. I expect the highest elected officials in the land to be incredibly intelligent, educated and worldly (think Clinton), rather than people you can relate to with a lot of "character" (think Bush, Reagan). After the horrible damage that has been done internationally to the reputation of the US, I think it's about time we elect somebody that the rest of the world leaders (think educated, above) will respect and believe in.

If you think John McCain and Sarah Palin are those people, then go ahead and vote for them. Maybe you'll regret it someday, like so many who voted for Bush in '04. Maybe you won't. But it's your right.

True, Biden is a gaffe machine and always has been - but he's been in the Senate since 1972. He created the Violence Against Women Act, which having worked in several women's shelters I can tell you has been effective and important. He was one of the first to suggest intervention in Bosnia, where some of the worst crimes against humanity since the Holocaust were committed. He knows the issues - proof of this can be seen in his vp debate. He has friends in both parties showing that he is capable of working with the Republicans. You cannot honestly tell me that we don't know Joe Biden's stances and that he is not properly informed on them. The things we know of Palin is that she is for drilling in Alaska, she hunts, she's a hockey mom, she has threatened war with Russia, and she's a great attack dog, but fluff on her stances on issues.

Why is it elitist to want an intelligent president or vice president? Sarah Palin can't even name a newspaper she reads, she does not speak about any of her positions and instead trashes the other party during debates, and she is an opponent of sex education that might have prevented her teenage daughter from getting pregnant. Have you seen her interviews? She knows very little about foreign affairs. She knows very little about United States history. I'm not advocating that you vote for Obama, I'm just saying that Palin is in it for power - she even admitted that her favorite vice president was George Bush, the first, only because he eventually became president. She's insane and should have never been chosen. Fortunately, a new CBS poll shows Obama is up 14 points and we won't have her help running this country for 4 years.

She certainly bounced around an awful lot. Everyone I know that did that is pretty worthless academically, but time will tell. This debate is tiring, because under no circumstance is Palin qualified for such a high standing political position.

You think Sarah Palin is unintelligent, but I would argue that Obama isn't much better. Calling one's grandmother "a typical white person," is definitely unintelligent if one wants to mobolize voters of all races. Also, Obama obviously doesn't put much thought to his participation in Senate based on his passive voting record. If I were from Illinois, I would be outraged that he voted "present" over 100 times while his repsonsibilities were to represent his constituency.

Why do we want a politican who consistently promotes gridlock in the White House?

No, I believe Jay thinks you're trying to pick apart anything on Obama to make Palin look better. Understanding what you've read and believing that someone is embellishing their real opinions to prop up their presidential candidate are two different things. I don't think lecturing on the difference between two words has any merit or can prove your point that Obama is as unintelligent as Palin.
