Bender, Doyle, Shellman, Blount, Jensen--their behavior has been unconscionable and, despite the feeble attempts of Doyle particularly, indefensible. In addition to the same bad behavior as the others, Jensen, however, has added bad poetry, and for that, university sanctions against him should have been even more severe--like lengthy community service being forced to read his own students' sophomoric, angsty poetry.

I always thought Dr. Doyle was hilarious. I am sorry that he made people uncomfortable... but I found his weirdness refreshing.

Doyle BACK in the classroom? Video taped, too, until Fall 2008? Hasn't enough money been wasted in his case? He's an English professor who can't spell in his snide defensive emails to authorities at the university, and who clearly can't be left to his own devices, not even on email, because he experiences students as temptations (oh "the flowing golden hair" this, "oh the g-string" that). It's a great shame, this case, and this man. I know many will come on here and say, "I'm a student of Doyle, and he's great; he's just eccentric and is no harasser, blah blah blah." Well, I'm sorry to say that if that's your opinion, then you probably shouldn't even be dignified with the name "student," because you really don't know this man as well as others, and his consistent behavior since 2001 (and god knows, before) surprises no one who's in the know. You can begin to learn about this creep by reading the documents associated with his case. If he resumes his usual smarmy activity on email, I sincerely hope he is terminated immediately. He's typical, associate prof deadwood who publishes very little, treats his job as a sinecure, and should be set out to pasture.

Look you bunch of old Geezers, Don't you realize these young girls are not interested in you! Slightly impressed in the beginning,Feeling powerful later on, Then grossed out by your fumbling in the end. Good Grief! Go to one of the strip clubs or better yet get on a plane to Vegas and buy some attention from a young girl. You are embarressing yourself, your family and the UGA! What ever happened to Keith Parker and the University Police Williamson's cases why are they never mentioned?

No they don't see it I think Doyles case is different but the other guys really do think they are attractive to young girls. What about your wives you jackasses.

Strip Clubs and going to Vegas are not good options for obvious reasons.

You know that guy in The Two Towers? That creepy guy who hits on the pretty girl and who whispers weird and inappropriate stuff into the King's ear, and gets called out by Gandalf even though he denies it and continues to defend his transgressions through tricksey rhetorical maneuvers, and who gets kicked down the stairs and almost killed by the King but then Gandalf lets him off the hook at the last minute and he doesn't actually get in any trouble and he just runs off to continue being wormy? well that guy SUCKS.

"'Or students at least can write comments about the behaviors on their anonymous course evaluations.'"

Umm...do we really want to open that can of worms again???

At some level the student needs to be protected by the University, and "anonymous" course evaluations are clearly not an effective or trustworthy avenue.

Exactly. Also, we shouldn't be encouraging students to accuse professors anonymously. Anyone can anonymously write false accusations about a professor with no accountability. Reporting the incident to a third party should protect both the student (from reprisals) and the professor (from false or spurious claims). That's assuming there is adequate follow-up, of course. But encouraging anonymous complaints just potentially sets up the student and professor for trouble.

What a very very bad idea Professor Miller; you should know better. Anonymous complaints on teaching evaluations? You call that "evidence"? Teaching evaluations are already highly unreliable. Many teachers already received scurrilous "complaints" written anonymously. Prof Miller, as head of your department, do you actually take them seriously? As former director of Women's Studies you really really already know what sort of nasty comments anonymous "evaluations" generate. Evidence? Maybe in George Bush's Wacky World of Terrorism. But then, it seems you are just another crypto-Bushie, aren't you?

If they can videotape his classes (which seems like a good idea, although I hope legal affairs approved it first), students should be able to record his inappropriate comments as evidence. It is surely a matter of time before his previously-sanctioned behavior happens again, especially since he does not take the complaints seriously.
