A taste of Athens: turkey a staple at Prince Ave. deli

Delicious turkey, moist stuffing and fresh cranberry sauce ... it's what makes wearing elastic waistband pants to the dinner table acceptable.
If you find yourself craving a delicious slice of homemade Thanksgiving heaven but in a much more manageable portion - but year round, none-the-less - then look no further than "The Gobbler" at Black Forest Bakery and Deli (not to be confused with a similarly-named sandwich available at Loco's Deli and Pub).
"THE GOBBLER"
Where: Black Forest Bakery and Deli
Address: 1307 Prince Avenue Athens
Telephone: (706) 549-3752
A menu staple since owner Sandy Lee opened her lunch counter three years ago, "The Gobbler" is the cleverly and aptly named combination of smoked turkey, cranberry sauce, cornbread stuffing and mayo on freshly baked bread. The sandwich is alluring to the point where even she is routinely surprised by how many people come by - even right after Thanksgiving - to get just a little bit more of the goodness.
Although Black Forest is much more than just a lunch counter selling holiday-inspired masterpiece sandwiches (the bakery has many delicious treats as well), it is one of their most popular, best-selling creations.
Anyone who has had a second or third plate on Thanksgiving, perhaps after a little nap in front of the T.V., understands this reason innately.
So this fall, when you find yourself craving a little bit of homemade goodness on freshly baked bread, stop in and see Sandy Lee at Black Forest Bakery and Deli. $6.99 gets you the sandwich, chips and a drink with a complimentary side of homemade satisfaction.
