Represent
Congratulations to the women's soccer team and newly crowned Miss Georgia Kimberly Anne Gittings. We're sure the soccer team will continue to represent the University well in the NCAA tournament, and good luck to Gittings in the upcoming Miss USA pageant. Keep reppin' it for the Dogs!
A word of advice
Former Speech Communication adviser Sarah McQuade transferred to the University's Costa Rica office in early October, leaving many students out of luck. Students have indicated professors and administrators within the department lack knowledge of the major's requirements, which we think is appalling. Though students need to take initiative in their own education, they still deserve acceptable, if not outstanding, advice.
Landing the perfect position
For those of you facing graduation next month, don't let the economy get you down. Visit the Career Center to perfect your resume, have several cover letters ready to go and take every interview you can get - even if you don't really want the job. And remember: dress for the job you want, not the job you have.
Proceed with caution
After a University man was robbed in his apartment last week, we'd like to remind everyone to steer clear of the "it can't happen to me" mentality. Be sure to use the peephole before answering the door, lock your doors and write down the serial numbers of electronics so you have a chance of getting your stuff back if robbed.
Credit card care
Though they're shiny, quick and easy, credit cards pose dangers for customers who charge everything they purchase. Do your best to avoid debt while you're shopping and having fun in Athens and throughout the holiday season.
Foot-in-mouth award
An Athens congressman, Republican Paul Broun, compared President-elect Barack Obama to Hitler, and now the representative is refusing to apologize. Broun's outrageous comments are offensive to many of his constituents and many people outside of Georgia. What Broun said was despicable, hateful speech that is embarrassing for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Show your support
As the football team travels to Auburn this weekend, we'd like to wish them good luck. We know the defense has been prepping all week, and hopefully the Tigers won't score as many points as Kentucky did last week. University community, continue to support both players and coaches - after all, everyone wants to see a New Year's Day bowl, right?
