A.J. Green joins the elite

Freshman receiver A.J. Green was named Southeastern Conference Freshman Player of the Week on Monday, his second such honor this season.

Green caught the game-winning touchdown in Georgia's 17-13 win over Auburn Saturday, a week after he did the same in the Bulldogs' 42-38 thriller over Kentucky.

Green leads the conference in receiving yards per game with 80.7, and would be the first freshman to lead the SEC in receiving since 1999. He would also be the first Georgia player to do so since Brice Hunter accomplished the feat in 1994.

If he registers 113 more yards through the air this season between the matchup with Georgia Tech and Georgia's bowl game, the Somerville, S.C., native would join Terrence Edwards (2002) as the only other Bulldog to record 1,000 yards receiving in a season.

CBS announces noon kickoff

Georgia's Nov. 29 date with in-state rival Georgia Tech will be a noon kickoff from Athens and aired on CBS, it was announced Monday.

It will kickoff a rivalry-full Saturday on CBS, with the Iron Bowl between Auburn and Alabama kicking off at 3:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs (9-2, 6-2 SEC) have a much-needed bye week Saturday, and the Yellow Jackets (7-3, 4-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) take on ACC Coastal Division-leading Miami on Thursday.

Baseball inks first signees of 2009

Georgia baseball head coach David Perno announced the first four signees of its 2009 recruiting class Monday, and all four are from Georgia.

Brett DeLoach, a catcher from Blackshear, Kyle Farmer, a middle infielder from Atlanta, Miles Head, a catcher/infielder from Fayetteville and Zach Taylor, an outfielder from Statesboro, all signed letters of intent to play for the Bulldogs in 2009.

DeLoach, Farmer and Taylor all hit over .400 for their respective high schools in the 2008 season, and Head hit an impressive .522 with 10 home runs.

"All four will make impacts as freshman as we feel these are four of the better hitters in the state," Perno said in a press release.
