Kupets inducted into gymnastics hall of fame

Georgia senior Courtney Kupets was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame as a member of the 2003 Women's World Champi-onships Gold Medal Team. She and her teammates were honored as part of the Olympic Team Trials in Philadelphia, Pa.
An injury kept Kupets from competing in the 2003 games, but in 2002 she became the third American to win the World Championship on the uneven bars and the first U.S. World Champion since 1994. She was named 2003 USA Gymnastics Athlete of the Year. In 2004, Kupets was the U.S. National Champion on beam and co-champion in the all-around. She was named 2004 USA Gymnastics Co-Athlete of the Year. The Athens native won the all-around title at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials and went on to be a member of the silver medal-winning team at the 2004 Olympics.
Also: Georgia soccer signee Ashley Baker, a goalkeeper from Lilburn, Ga., was selected to play for the England Women's Under-19 National Team. She will compete for England at the 2008 UEFA European Women's U-19 Championships, taking place in France from July 2-20. . .
FSN South will air the Sept. 6 home football game against Central Michigan at 3:30 p.m. . . Former Bulldog diver Chris Colwill moved closer to the U.S. Olympic team after a second-place finish on the 3-meter springboard at the Olympic Trials. . . Georgia senior Ian Burrell was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Cross Country and Track & Field Team. Burrell was one of 18 members selected at the University Division.
