Munson's health may hasten retirement

Larry Munson, the voice of the Bulldogs, may be ready to step down as the play-by-play radio announcer after 40 years at the microphone. Munson, 84, sat down with Athletic Director Damon Evans Tuesday to discuss 'contingency plans' for when he does finally call it quits.

During that meeting, Munson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Georgia officials are now discussing the prospect of him only doing home games. He would be splitting the play-by-play duties between him and Scott Howard.

Munson cited medical issues as a reason for his possible retirement.

"I can't run, and I can't walk," Munson told Dawg Post. "I can't use my hands; I can't close my hands. It's just so stupid."

Munson began calling games for Georgia in 1966 and has been a staple in Sanford Stadium ever since. In addition, Munson is also famous for the Georgia football tribute played before every home game which ends with the famous cheer: "Go Dawgs."
