Miss UGA 2009 named first runner-up at Miss Georgia pageant

Briana Jewett, Miss University of Georgia 2009, was named first runner-up at the 2009 Miss Georgia Pageant held on June 27 in Columbus, Georgia. The Marietta, Georgia student also received top honors for "Overall Evening Wear."

Jewett is an exercise and sport science major at UGA. During the pageant, she performed a lyrical dance to the song "I Stand" and spoke about her platform, PEACE OUTside Campus, an organization dedicated to promoting peaceful and safe living environments in off-campus college communities nationwide.

As first runner-up, Jewett will receive more than $7,500 in scholarship money.
