Be wary when parking so not to get ticketed

Although the campus encompasses a vast amount of land, not much of that land is allocated for parking. Any new student should know the basic rules and regulations of the Parking Services.

First, any student seeking a parking spot must register online at the Parking Services Web site. The permits are distributed based on residency hours on campus and the number of class credit hours at the University.

Most freshmen who apply for parking during the summer receive a permit. The cost of these permits range from $20 to $40 per month, depending on the location of the lot. Students who do not get a permit during the first lottery can reapply and be placed on the waiting list, which usually yields a permit during the second round of distributions.

Vehicles that are parked in lots without a permit garner a $40 citation. After two or more of these citations, Parking Services may place a boot on the vehicle or tow it.

Enforcement hours for most lots are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and in housing lots from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Housing lots don't require permits for the weekend after 5 p.m. on Fridays.
