Now open, the new Lucky Wings on Baxter Street, beside IHOP, is ready for business.

The new location features a bar and spacious seating area. The restaurant offers delivery, dine-in or carry out and is open until 3 a.m.

LUCKY WINGS

Where: 1120 Baxter St.
Phone Number: 706-353-3011
Food Score: Immediate 100, Emerging 100

Grade: B
Verdict: A fun neighborhood place with decent food

Lucky's boasts its wings, so the variety of sauces is quite extensive. In total, Lucky's offers 35 different sauce options that can be put over wings or chicken tenders.

Of course there are mild, medium and hot, but the restaurant also has sauces such as sweet and sour, lemon pepper, teriyaki and Jamaican jerk.

Lucky's also has many different options when it comes to wings. Patrons can order as few as 10 wings ($5.99) or as many as 100 wings ($49.99).

As for the boneless chicken tenders, the range is four tenders ($5.99) up to 24 ($25.99).

Lauren decided to get the chicken tenders and ordered them tossed in medium sauce.

The waitress told her she could get a combo, which includes fries (regular, Cajun or Old Bay) and a drink for only $1 more.

Lauren was tempted by the Cajun fries, since she likes them with a little kick.

The serving was huge and came with four gigantic chicken tenders and an abundance of fries. The chicken was tender, crisp and tasted fresh.

Unlike some chicken fingers that have more crisp than meat, these were full, thick and juicy strips of chicken. The sauce was not too spicy and almost a little sweet.

Lauren said she could have even gone for the hot. She also got some ranch to dip her tenders and fries in.

Sally decided to go for one of Lucky's sandwiches. She got a barbecue sandwich ($4.99) and a side of coleslaw ($.99).

She thought the sandwich was tasty, and the bun was crispy and deliciously buttered.

Sally thought the barbeque was good for a place that doesn't specialize in that cuisine. As for the coleslaw, it was OK.

Sally could have made her meal a combo, which comes with two sides, Texas toast and a pickle, but wasn't hungry enough.

That combo comes either in a half-pound portion ($8.99) or a quarter-pound portion ($6.99).

Some side options that are offered include fries (regular $1.99, large $2.99), fried mushrooms ($2.99), an egg roll ($.89) and hush puppies ($.99). Other sandwich options are a half-pound cheeseburger ($4.99), chicken sandwich ($4.99) and a Classic City cheese steak sub, which has onions and green peppers on it ($4.99).

Our waitress was attentive and nice. She sat at the table to take our order, which was unexpected, but made our dining experience much more personal.

However, Lucky's seemed a bit understaffed. The waitress was running around, and we were hesitant to bother her with anything. There was a nice crowd for a newly opened restaurant, so perhaps when Lucky's gets off its feet more staff will be hired.

Lucky's is a place to eat for those who are in the mood for a neighborhood place that serves good wings and sandwiches.

It's also a nice alternative to one of the downtown bars to just hang out with friends and enjoy some finger lickin' food.
