Delgado-Romero joined the University faculty in 2005 after serving three years on the faculty at Indiana University and five years before that at the University of Florida. He received his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Notre Dame.

His research interests are in multicultural psychology, Latino/a psychology, race and ethnicity, faculty of color retention and multicultural competence.

Delgado-Romero is the third University faculty member to be named Fellow of the Society of Counseling Psychology. Previous inductees include Dean Arthur Horne and Brian Glaser, a professor in the department of counseling and human development services. Horne, a Distinguished Research Professor, is a Fellow of several American Psychological Association divisions. A fourth professor in the department, Linda Campbell, is scheduled to be inducted as a Fellow in 2009.
