Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace won his 500th career match and the second-ranked Bulldogs advanced to the Round of 16 with a 4-0 win over South Carolina in the NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament Saturday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Wallace is now tied with former baseball coach Steve Webber for fourth place on the all-time UGA wins list. Suzanne Yoculan holds the top spot with 804 wins followed by Andy Landers with 707 and Dan Magill with 706. Wallace is 500-123 in 23 years at Georgia.

"First of all it's just great for the team to get a win and go to the Sweet Sixteen in Tulsa," Wallace said. "Reaching 500 wins to me is just a reflection of the great players, the superb assistant coaches and wonderful administrators that I've been able to work with. I would really like to thank my family who has been with me all the way. I have the best family in the world."

The Bulldogs (22-4) won for the 10th straight match and advanced to the Round of 16 for the ninth time in 10 years since the current 64-team format was implemented in 1999. They will face Arkansas in the Round of 16 on May 15 at 4:00 p.m. ET in Tulsa, Okla.

For the second straight day Georgia set the tone by winning the doubles point. Naoko Ueshima and Cameron Ellis improved to a perfect 5-0 in dual matches with an 8-3 win over Megan McGavock and Ana Marija Zubori at No. 2. It was Ueshima's 33rd doubles win this season, tying Shadisha Robinson for the UGA single season record. The sophomore from Hyogo, Japan, also moved into second for the most combined singles and doubles wins in one season with 68, trailing Agata Cioroch's 69 in 2002.

Kelley Hyndman and Yvette Hyndman clinched the doubles point for Georgia with an 8-2 win over Suzanna Mansour and Gira Schofield at No. 1.

Quick singles wins on courts four and five gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 advantage. Cameron Ellis finished first on court five, winning for the 36th time this year, 6-2, 6-1 over McGavock. No. 83 Ueshima followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win at court four over Mansour.

Adrienne Elsberry provided her third match clincher of the season for Georgia, 6-1, 7-5, over Jelena Rajic.

"We played two great matches this weekend," Wallace said. "Yale and South Carolina both played us tough. We were very excited to win both doubles points and we played great in singles both days. We need to just keep fighting."

Matches on courts one, two and three were suspended once the match was clinched as the Bulldogs recorded their seventh shutout of the year.

South Carolina completed its season with a 13-10 record.
