Lemon suspended indefinitely, Boling first two games
Staff reports
Issue date: 7/3/08 Section: Sports
Georgia sophomore defensive end Michael Lemon was suspended indefinitely from the team following his arrest and charge with felony aggravated battery Thursday.
It was also announced sophomore guard Clint Boling will be suspended for the first two games of the season, against Georgia Southern and Central Michigan, resulting from a DUI arrest in May.
"I'm certainly disappointed in a few of our players who have made poor decisions during the off season," Georgia head coach Mark Richt said. "It is of great concern and we take it very seriously. They will be dealt with accordingly and will pay a price. Each one will be disiplined based on the severity of their actions.
Athletic Association policy dictates any felony arrest results in immediate and indefinite suspension pending an investigation.
But defensive end Jeremy Lomax was given some good news. Authorities exonerated senior defensive end from June charges of carrying a concealed weapon.
No indication on what will happen to offensive linemen Trinton Sturdivant and Justin Anderson who were arrested and charged with misdemeanor simple battery earlier this week.
Fullback Fred Munzenmaier will miss the first game of the season and defensive back Donavon Baldwin will miss the first two due to arrests earlier in the year. Munzenmaier was arrested in January and charged with underage consumption of alcohol and pedestrian walking on the road. Baldwin was also arrested in January and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper driving.
Richt wanted to stress that most all players are doing what's expected.
"At the same time, I'm extremely excited about what the vast majority of our team has been doing on a daily basis this summer," Richt stated. "They're working hard in the classroom and there's certainly a buzz from our veteran players as to the work ethic and effort they've seen in their weightlifting, running and position workouts. Virtually every one of our players is giving back to the community this summer.
"Many of them have already taken part in the mission trip to Honduras, Habitat for Humanity, Camp Sunshine, Camp Kudzu and Camp Independence," Richt added. "Over the rest of the summer, even more will volunteer at HEROES for Children, Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer, the Countdown to Kickoff Childrens' Charity Event and several other events."

Can't help feeling disappointed that some of our DAWGS are making poor choices which negatively impact their lives. Hopefully, they will learn from their situations because they each deserve an opportunity to exonerate their actions. (Continued…)
