Jesse Jackson to appear at 40 Watt Monday

Rev. Jesse Jackson will speak Monday night at the 40 Watt Club to honor the hard workers of Athens.
Downtown march: 5:45 p.m. Monday
Screening "Mississippi Chicken" at Cine: 6:30 p.m. Monday
Jesse Jackson speaks at the 40 Watt Club: 8 p.m. Monday
Vinyl Strangers plays: 9:15 p.m. Monday
Members from the UFCW and UGA Living Wage Campaign speak: 9:45 p.m. Monday
Ishues in the Movement plays: 10 p.m. Monday
Jackson is one of several speakers and bands featured between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. for the fourth annual Celebration of Workers' Rights event.
The Economic Justice Coalition, an Athens-Clarke County non-profit organization that works for a living wage and fair treatment for all workers, will show "Mississippi Chicken," a documentary about the chicken processing industry in the South, at Cine. Representatives from the United Food and Commercial Workers Union and the University's Living Wage Campaign.
Athens-native bands Vinyl Strangers - a powerpop/indie group - and Ishues in Movement - a hip-hop/rap singer - will perform at the event also.
Coalition members are asking for a $5 donation for the documentary and $10 admission to events at the 40 Watt. Tickets for both are $12.

Why in heaven's name ANYONE or any group would invite Jesse Jackson to speak at an function is beyond me. His only claim to fame was his association with the late Martin Luther King. (Continued…)

Of all those going to see Jackson at 8 pm, how many are going to stick around to hear those idiots from the living wage group speak at 9:45?
I'm guessing when that dolt Kate Gibson and her boy toy Zaid take the stage, the only ones who'll be there are the clean up crew at the 40-watt. (Continued…)
