Ever wonder what goes on during football games after a tackle, under the pile of fallen bodies? Television cameras caught Florida's Brandon Spikes gouging the eyes of Georgia's Washaun Ealey after one such play in Saturday's 41-17 Gator victory. Spikes tackled Ealey, and inserted his hand into Ealey's facemask, moving it up and down apparently trying to injure the freshman tailback.
Since the Southeastern Conference expanded from 10 teams to 12 in 1991, it has never sent less than four teams to the NCAA tournament. That is until last year when they sent only three teams, and conference champion - Louisiana State - only receiving an eight seed, with none of the three teams advancing to the Sweet 16.
It isn't how you start, it's how you finish. The Georgia volleyball team (13-9, 4-7 SEC) can certainly relate to that adage after overcoming its recent four-game conference losing streak and a last place standing in the SEC eastern division.
Joe Cox will remain Georgia's starting quarterback, coach Mark Richt said Monday. After throwing three interceptions in the second half against Florida, Cox was replaced by sophomore Logan Gray in the fourth quarter of the 41-17 loss. Rumors swirled of a permanent change, with either Gray or freshman Aaron Murray starting against Tennessee Tech this Saturday.
It's been almost a week since freshman baseball player Chance Veazey was injured in a scooter accident on Lumpkin Street, and his condition has hardly improved. "[Veazey's condition is the] same as it was, just still no feeling in his legs," Georgia head coach David Perno said Monday.
