University students and members of the Athens community came together to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks during a weekend of student-organized events.

The Student Government Association joined forces with Omicron Delta Kappa, ROTC, Young Democrats, Young Republicans and other student groups to host events around places central to the University and vital to students' continued remembrance of the day's significance.

Students rang the chapel bell at the plane crash times — 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:37 a.m., 10:03 a.m— Sunday morning. A group gathered at the Tate Student Center flag pole that night at 9:11 p.m. for Reconvene to Remember, a candlelit program honoring the fallen. People through the Athens area joined together at Athens First United Methodist Church to remember the lives lost with a community singing of Gabriel Faure's "Requiem."

Throughout the weekend of remembrance, students strove to remember the fallen as well as to honor those who have given their lives in the decade since the attacks.
