I am writing in response to Harmon Caldwell's letter (The Red & Black, Tuesday).

Let me clear up your misguided claim that you should not have to pay as much as $5 a day over the summer. If you had looked into the matter, you'd have realized that the reason you had to pay each day to use the Ramsey Center was because you did not sign up for a summer membership.

If you had done so you would have realized that you were not paying any more money than you would have at any other time of year. Currently, students pay around $87 per semester towards the use of the Center.

The Ramsey Center is only open to students, faculty and staff who have in some form payed for their eligibility. I am not sure where you see this as unfair or a rip-off.

Finally, as for your claim that the Ramsey Center discriminates on the basis of who looks more athletic than another, I will not insult your intelligence or mine by answering such an outrageous attack.

I am truly sorry that you feel you are not getting your money's worth at your sports facility. However, the next time you decide to lash out against what you perceive to be true, try looking at the facts, and maybe you will realize your mistakes before making a fool of yourself in a public newspaper.
