The best I ever had? I could taste it before I was even having it. I knew I had all the right ingredients for the evening.

It was all so easy to do that there was zero room for error.

Things might get a little bit messy, but it was going to be just what I needed--just like every time before, and every time to come.

Yep, it's hard to beat a home-cooked meal. One of the only things that makes it better is having it prepared in under 20 minutes. Oh, and then having only two dirty dishes.

With something so simple, and so enjoyable at my disposal, I just felt the need to share.

So, beginning today, there will be an easy recipe column appearing once-a-week in The Red & Black.

This first recipe, hamburger pie, is one of my favorites because it combines three of the four major food groups, is inexpensive and delicious.

Hamburger Pie

Cooking/Preparation Time: 15-20 Minutes

Servings: Three to four (Just look at the people at your table and make a rational assessment.)

Ingredients: One box of macaroni and cheese (any variety)

Milk and Butter (amounts required for mac and cheese on box)

One package of ground beef (use ground turkey for a lighter recipe)

One can of diced tomatoes (skip this step if you're not a tomato eater)

Directions: Prepare macaroni and cheese as directed on the box. While the pasta is cooking, brown the ground meat in a skillet until it is crumbled and no longer pink.

Drain any excess grease from your skillet. Drain your can of tomatoes and add them to your meat skillet.

Pour prepared macaroni and cheese into your meat/tomato mixture. Stir and serve.

Great as leftovers too!

Fact: You have to eat to live.

Many people think that a home-cooked meal requires extensive planning and preparation in order to really be worth it.

Why put forth this effort when there are so many restaurants ready to slave over a hot stove for you?

Not only does it drain

the budget to eat out frequently, it is also not usually as healthy as cooking and it takes time.

I also understand that there are some people who would like to cook, but they don't have any experience in the kitchen past opening a can of beer.

Now, you can turn to your Red & Black to find a

yummy recipe that's pretty much guaranteed to come out tasting good, no matter how kitchen illiterate you claim to be.

These recipes will always adhere to a tight wallet, and not take up too much of your valuable time.
