Dogs use bye week to get rest before Florida game
Defensive tackle Jeff Owens said he knows what the Florida teams of the '90s felt by having a bye week before the Georgia-Florida matchup."We just had to take advantage of our bye week," Owens said. "I know a lot of guys got a lot of rest. We had a chance to get our bodies, mind and our legs right. This week we'll be more physical, and I feel the guys are more energetic and we're ready to play some football."
Owens, who played on a sore ankle against Vanderbilt, said he is feeling better.
"I think I'm probably about 95 (percent)," Owens said. "The week off gave me a chance to relax and stay off of it."
Owens added that linebackers Brandon Miller and Marcus Washington were back at practice and will play this weekend for Georgia. The Bulldogs sit in a three-way tie atop the SEC East with the Gators and South Carolina.
Redshirt provides backup for starter
Redshirt senior Jason Johnson has waited a long time for his chance to see action in an important game. With injuries to Thomas Brown and Kregg Lumpkin, Johnson will provide a backup role to starter Knowshon Moreno against Florida on Saturday.
"Anytime I get the opportunity to go into the game, whether it be special teams or offense, at that point I'm the starter and that's how I've got to approach it," Johnson said.
