While most University students will have a full three weeks off from school during the winter break, the No. 7 Lady Bulldogs (8-0) will have more games than days off during the holiday.

For the second straight season, the Lady Bulldogs finished the fall semester with their perfect record intact, but they will have to survive six contests to maintain that mark before classes resume and the SEC season begins.

The Bulldogs first face off at home against Davidson (4-2) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The team then has a full week of practice before taking on in-state foe Mercer (3-6) on Dec. 17 in the final game before the Christmas holiday.

After spending Thanksgiving in the Bahamas for a tournament, head coach Andy Landers stressed the importance of having his players have some time off in December.

"I think our kids sacrifice an awful lot, and what we traditionally try to do is get five to six days off at Christmas," he said. "Hopefully they appreciate that enough that when they come back, they come back focused and ready and trying to compensate for that time off in a positive way."

Sophomore guard Ashley Houts echoed her coach's sentiments of coming back from Christmas ready to play, as the team will make the trek to Miami for a two-day tournament where they will play Florida State (7-1) and either Florida International (2-5) or Hofstra (2-4) Dec. 29-30.

"We've got a few two-a-days that week, and as soon as we get back from Christmas break, we head straight to the airport, so it's going to be important for us to pick up where we left off," Houts said.

The Lady Bulldogs begin the 2008 calendar year with a home contest against Presbyterian (1-7) on Jan. 2 and will finish up their non-conference slate with a road date at Xavier (5-3) January 6.

After their winter break swing, the Lady Bulldogs will return to action against Ole Miss in the SEC opener.
