A University pharmacy professor is accused of beating a graduate student during a party last semester.

Christopher Shawn Holaway, a clinical assistant professor, faces accusations of hitting Philip Almeter, a 25-year-old student from Augusta, at an off-campus Homecoming party, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Efforts to reach Vice President for Public Affairs Tom Jackson, Holaway and Almeter were unsuccessful Monday night.

Two Red & Black reporters knocked at the door of the pharmacy fraternity house on Lumpkin Street Monday night and were turned away.

The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported Holaway is accused of punching Almeter three times. Holaway is also accused of arriving at the party while under the influence of alcohol.

Jackson told the newspaper Holaway is teaching online courses and not supervising students' clinical rotations.

Holaway is a clinical assistant professor at the Southwest Georgia Pharmacy Program, which is one of four locations that the University College of Pharmacy operates.

The Red & Black reported Friday that Holaway is under investigation by the Office of Legal Affairs.

The Red & Black has not had access to the documents because they are "time exempt" as a part of the pending investigation, said Mitch Clayton, the University's open records manager.

These accusations follow last week's Red & Black articles on University professor William Bender who is accused of sexually harassing multiple students since 1989.

The College of Pharmacy already is facing scrutiny after a lawsuit was filed in August 2007 against several deans and professors.

The lawsuit alleges that a pharmacy professor collected and disseminated questions to national pharmacy licensure exams.

This story reminds me of something I noticed about the Bender story - how come they weren't disciplined related to their DRUNKENESS AT A UNIVERSITY RELATED EVENT?

I just want to say that sometimes professors just have to open up a can of whoop-ass and slap a biatch.

Holaway is big pimpin with his bowtie. That student should have known that Holaway's pimp hand was strong
