University officials appointed a dean to the College of Environment and Design to take office Aug. 15, just before the start of the fall semester.
Daniel J. Nadenicek, chair of the department of planning and landscape architecture at Clemson University, will replace interim dean Scott Weinberg who began in September 2006, after then dean Jack Crowley stepped down.
Nadenicek's academic strengths and administrative style make him a "fit" for the college and the position of dean, Provost Arnett Mace said in a phone interview Thursday.
"Dr. Nadenicek possesses expertise and has taught in landscape design and historic preservation, a vital component to the College of Education and Design," Mace said.
Nadenicek earned bachelor's and master's degrees in history at Mankato State University in Minnesota and bachelor's and master's degrees in landscape architecture at the University of Minnesota. He has presented more than 75 lectures, papers and panel presentations overseas and has over 90 published works, according to a University news release.
He has acquired grants totaling more than $4 million since 1991, aiding research and course development, according to the release.
Mace said Nadenicek indicated he would give attention to enhancing the undergraduate experience for students within the college.
"In ' final analysis, we thought Dr. Nadenicek could enhance the quality and recognition of the college," Mace said.

To the Red & Black, a couple of notes: First it is the College of Environment & Design, not Education & Design. Also, Nadenicek does not have a Ph.D. (Continued…)
