NBAF
Facility will deepen economic division
I have a hard time believing people who argue the NBAF should move to Athens due to the fact that it would bring in jobs and help relieve some of our poverty. Those who argue this seem to be blind to the fact this facility would not provide a significant number of "low level" (no-education required) jobs to make a significant difference.Instead, many of the Plum Island employees will have the opportunity to transfer to the new facility location, most likely leaving few openings, which I am sure only will be filled by people who have their Ph.Ds in various sciences. The NBAF will do nothing to help our poverty situation and, if anything, only will add to the widening divide between the extremely educated and the undereducated in Athens.

Cultural program deserves coverage
The Indian Cultural Exchange in concert with the other South Asian Students from Emory, Georgia Tech, Georgia State and Mercer staged one of the largest cultural programs last weekend here in Athens at the Classic Center. However, one would be hard pressed to know that given the total lack of coverage in the student paper. Surely The Red & Black could have sent a reporter to cover the event, which is one of the many cultural programs put together by students and showcases the diversity of cultures embodied in the student body at the University.

ANNOYANCE
Packing up distracts from lectures
OK, people. I know this may be tough, but is it so hard to wait until the end of class before you pack up your stuff? Why is it you must be ready to leave at least two minutes ahead of time? It is really distracting and disrespectful to the teacher and your fellow students. Just once I would like to hear the last few sentences said by my teacher without hearing 60 bags opening and closing. If teachers are going over time, it is acceptable to let them know, but please give them the respect they deserve, and give your fellow students the allotted time to learn.WILLIAM JOHNSON

Moira-
I understand what you're getting at, but let's be realistic. Pushing away a facility like the NBAF because it will broaden the gap between the educated and the not-so is an awful idea. (Continued…)
