Carson, 22, who graduated from Clarke Central High School in 2004 where she was valedictorian and student body president, was found at an intersection near campus.
The Daily Tar Heel, UNC's student newspaper, reported police are looking for her 2005 blue Toyota Highlander with Georgia license plate AIV 6690, which was believed to be stolen in the incident.
Carson was identified Thursday morning, according to a police press release. No arrests have been made as of Thursday afternoon.
Police said she was last seen alive at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Raleigh News & Observer reported.
Carson was the recipient of the university's Morehead Scholarship and was a pre-med student double majoring in biology and political science.
Carson's death comes on the heels of the death of another Georgia student. Lauren Burk, from Marietta and a freshman at Auburn, was killed by a gunshot wound a few miles from the Auburn campus Tuesday evening. No suspects have been identified as of Thursday afternoon.

Gun Violence is real and it wasn't some ambiguous terrorist threat that killed her, she was killed right here in our back yards, under our noses. "Not For Five Minutes, Will I Be Kept From the Wonder"
It isn't easy for me to assess exactly what I've been feeling this afternoon. In between bouts of anger, incredulity, anxiety, and most of all, the dejection resulting from a penetrating appreciation for the madness of it all, its still difficult for me to reconcile myself to a single fact: Eve Marie Carson was murdered.
