Robert Wiatt Farrar, a 20-year-old freshman from Apex, N.C., died in a single car accident near his North Carolina home on Feb. 22.
Farrar was a new brother in the Chi Phi fraternity, said Darryl Aldridge, a junior from Atlanta and Farrar's fraternity brother.
Farrar made an impression on everyone he met, said fraternity brother Sam Pouns, a freshman from Houston, Texas.
"His smile was infectious. When we'd all be together, he'd be the one to turn the music up and dance," Pouns said.
"He always loved music, he knew the words to all the songs on the radio."
Farrar had not decided on a major yet and took this semester off from school to spend time with his family, Pouns said.
In 2007, Farrar graduated from Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., where he was involved in numerous sports and activities.
He served as co-captain for the varsity lacrosse and basketball teams and was also a monitor, cheerleader, tour guide and football player, according to an obituary in the Roanoke Times.
"That's where he was really known," Pouns said. "All of his pallbearers were classmates from Episcopal."
Farrar loved the outdoors and was preparing for the National Outdoor Leadership School at the time of his death.
Aldridge said Chi Phi is "in the process of making a memorial," either a plaque or monument, for the fraternity house.
"[The fraternity] sent a bunch of stuff to the family," Pouns said. "It's been very emotional for them."
Pouns said what he remembers most about Farrar is that "he was always enjoyable to be around. He had a willingness to make everyone's time enjoyable."
"He was a very humble and exceptional character and will be missed in our chapter," Aldridge said.
