Police are looking for the driver of a green Ford Explorer or Expedition that fled the scene of a collision that left a student hospitalized.

University sophomore Justin Walter McCart was riding his bicycle northeast on Baxter Street Thursday at 12:20 p.m. when the vehicle hit him.

The SUV was turning right into the W07 parking lot by Bolton Dining Commons and McCart was in the bike lane, according to a witness. The driver didn't use a turn signal.

McCart's shoe flew off during the impact, and the eyewitness told police she saw him "roll a good four feet on the ground."

The driver stopped for a few moments before pulling away.

A student on her way to class and her mother were driving behind the green SUV and stopped to help McCart, who was lying on the ground.

University Police arrived within minutes of the incident to gather information, direct traffic and help McCart.

An ambulance arrived and paramedics transported him to St. Mary's Hospital.

A hospital official at St. Mary's patient services said in a telephone interview Thursday afternoon McCart was in the emergency room.

Lt. Lisa Boone said the police report was not available before the University Police administrative offices closed Thursday.

C'mon guys...give the witnesses a break. They didn't do anything wrong. They were just going about their day and something rather unexpected and shocking happens. (Continued…)

so, you admit you were not following the laws of the road? speeding past trucks, swerving through traffic, possibly speeding? i agree that the driver should not have left the scene of an accident, especially one in which an individual could have been so badly hurt- that is deplorable and hopefully for society's sake, this person reads the r&b online and pays attention to these comments so he or she will feel suprememly guilt.
