- Rules of Nature, Rules of Life. Sponsored by the Environmental Ethics Certificate Program. Dr. Nalini Nadkarni, faculty of environmental studies at Evergreen State College, gives the talk. Her research is focused on the ecology of tropical and temperate forest canopies, particularly the role that canopy-dwelling plants play in forests at the ecosystem level. Bjorn Poonen, UC Berkeley, surveys some of his favorite problems in number theory, such as Fermat's last theorem (solved). This lecture is aimed at a general audience.
