Sponsored by the School of Social Work, Vinson Institute of Government, Office of the Vice President for Public Service & Outreach, Office of Institutional Diversity, and the Institute for African American Studies. - Lecture: Hilbert's Tenth Problem. Sponsored by the Department of Mathematics. The second lecture of the 14th Annual Cantrell Lectures, delivered by Bjorn Poonen. In 1900, Hilbert dreamed that someday there would be a general method for solving all diophantine equations, but in 1970 it was proved that no such method exists.
