The Georgia softball team looks to regain winning form against SEC rival Auburn (33-14, 9-10 SEC) today in a scheduled doubleheader at the University Softball Stadium.
The team has had two days of practice to prepare for the mid-week SEC contest.
"We got a lot of work done," Kristin Schnake said. "We worked on some things that we saw needed a little bit more attention in the past couple of weekends, and I think we are ready to roll."
Despite the losing streak, the Bulldogs enter Wednesday with an impressive 35-16 overall record.
"We have definitely been playing better competition," senior Melissa Wood said. "We're playing really good teams. Our defense hasn't been there like it had been all season, so I think once we get our defense back on track, we will definitely start beating teams."
The defensive aspect was addressed in practice, and Wood said things are headed in the right direction.
"Practice has been great," Wood said. "Our defense has been on 100 percent [this week], so I feel like we're right where we need to be."
Schnake said the team is using the losing streak as tool to get better.
"You can always throw out positives," Schnake said. "Just because you don't win doesn't mean you can't learn something and get better that day. Sometimes losses are a good thing because you can see where you struggle and where you can improve."
Schnake points to leadership to get back on the winning track.
"The seniors always pick it up, and that's what Georgia softball is all about," Schnake said. "We can always rely on them." Georgia leads the overall series with Auburn 20-10 including taking both games of a doubleheader from the Tigers last season.
"Auburn is a pretty good team," Wood said. "If you don't play well, they're going to beat you. I think if we play like we can play we should win both games."
