New trio could oust 'Sir Folds'
Your new favorite band
Issue date: 4/17/08 Section: Out & About
A three-piece band with high energy and quirk-driven by a guy named Ben who plays piano. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Too bad Jukebox The Ghost is bound to send Sir Folds packing for the retirement home. It's about time the fast-paced, happy-go-lucky piano-pop-rock torch was passed down and no one is more deserving than this terribly adorable and addicting trio of George Washington University grads.
Members: Ben Thornewill, Tommy Siegel, Jesse Kristin
New Release: Live and Let Ghosts (April 22)
Listen at: jukeboxtheghost.com
Currently living in Philly, it's no wonder that the band now calls the City of Brotherly Love home with its tightly-knit harmonies, endless high energy, and incredibly crisp production showcased on its forthcoming effort "Live and Let Ghosts." With tender and tenacious lead tenor vocals being traded between Ben Thornewill and Tommy Siegel above the driving and precise percussion of Jesse Kristin, Jukebox stages a mini-rock opera at almost every opportunity.
The threesome channels an uncanny amount of musical gusto and charm through slight '50s shoo-bop on the song "Under My Skin," scale-hopping pop frustration on "Hold It In" and grandiose grand piano orchestration on the near-seminal single "Good Day." Lucky for us, the trio is no stranger to the Classic City, having opened for Modern Skirts earlier this semester.
Don't miss your chance to see them once more as you celebrate the conclusion of this school year on the eve of May 6, when the band will share the Caledonia stage with Brooklyn's The XYZ Affair and Atlanta's Morning State.
