A member of the Georgia baseball team, playing with the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape League in Massachusetts this summer, was charged with driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury after allegedly hitting a Whitecaps teammate with a truck, a newspaper reported.

The Cape Cod Times reported Monday that Georgia pitcher Ryan G. Woolley, 20, of Montclair, Va., pleaded not guilty in Orleans District Court Monday morning to operating under the influence of alcohol resulting in serious bodily injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and minor in possession of alcohol. He was ordered held on $500 cash bail and is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on July 1.

According to a police report of the incident, Woolley was heard at the police station saying "I'm done with college ... I'm done with the Cape Cod League ... my baseball career is over."

Woolley is not with the team in Omaha at the College World Series because he did not make the post-season cut, according to Ben Beaty, the sports information office spokesman for the college, the newspaper reported.

Injured in the incident is Barrett Dail, 20, of Raleigh, N.C. A member of the North Carolina baseball team, Dail was flown to a Boston hospital and is listed in critical but stable condition with head and leg injuries, the Times reported.

According to police, the two were watching the College World Series when Woolley went out to move his truck. Dail jumped on the hood, and Woolley said he put on the brakes, throwing Dail under the vehicle and pinning him, the newspaper reported.

Dail is a pitcher for the Tar Heels, a team also playing in this year's College World Series. He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 32nd round of the 2006 draft.

As a freshman in 2007, Woolley made 19 relief appearances with a 1-1 record and a 3.14 ERA.

Just don't drink and drive (or rape someone, or smash your glass in someone's face), and I suspect you'll have nothing to worry about. It's not like the R & B is making this stuff up. (Continued…)
