The National

232 W. Hancock Ave.
706-549-3450

Chef Hugh Acheson of Five & Ten, along with Peter Dale and Chris Luken, has opened up yet another successful restaurant here in the Classic City.

The National, conveniently located in downtown Athens, opened its doors in August of 2007.

Their Mediterranean-inspired cuisine changes seasonally and is made with ingredients from local farms throughout Northeast Georgia.

This unique restaurant is ideal to dine at if the 'rents are in town. The extensive bar menu can satisfy any pallet and even features a Cruvinet, which preserves and dispenses wine.

The menu includes tapas ranging from $4 to $9, entradas [appetizers] from $7 to $11, and platos principales [main dishes] from $17 to $24.

The restaurant also serves lunch and breakfast items such as pastries, fruit and coffee.

A good time to give this local favorite a try is on Sunday when they offer the Family-Style Prix Fix for $32 per person. This includes three courses: an appetizer, main dishes for the entire table, plus dessert.

Since the menu changes often to accommodate for local produce, patrons may find something different every time they dine.

But, a tapas such as humus with sumac, pine nuts and warm flatbread is representative of The National's fare.
