Release from the Athens Clarke County Police Department

Football fans and citizens are advised that the Athens-Clarke County code [Sec. 6-14-7 (4)(a)(b)] requires that taxi cabs be marked with the name of the company, telephone number, and have rates posted and a light on the top of the vehicle. All taxi drivers are required to have in their possession a picture ID. If none of these requirements are present, patrons are asked to not enter unmarked vehicles for public safety reasons.

Also, fans and citizens are reminded that open containers of alcohol are prohibited by ACC ordinance (Sec. 6-3-8). This prohibition does not apply to any property owned by the Board of Regents of the State of Georgia.

An open container means any bottle, can, glass, cup, or other vessel which contains an alcoholic beverage not in its original container. "Open container" shall also mean the original container of an alcoholic beverage and which contains an alcoholic beverage on which the seal has been broken or which is otherwise ready for consumption. No one should have any alcoholic beverages in any open container while on the public streets, sidewalks or rights-of-way, or in any public or semipublic parking facility within ACC.

"Semipublic parking facility" shall include any privately owned area where vehicles may be parked by the public.
