The trials and tribulations of tickets

The football ticket policies continued to anger students this week, as sophomores and juniors were awarded split ticket packages and scalping abounded on Facebook and elsewhere. If you plan on selling your tickets, have a heart and don't rip off your fellow students. If you're missing out on the fun between the hedges Saturday, at least there are plenty of places in town to cheer on the Dogs.

Future facility

Though the National Bio- and Agro-Defense Facility has become a divisive issue, we believe a research facility of this magnitude would yield positive results. Daniel Mead, a professor experienced in Plum Island, related this week the proposed facility would be nearly impenetrable, in line with what the Department of Homeland Security already said. We agree - we think it will be secure, add jobs in the Athens area and improve the quality of our University.

It's Tricky

Darryl "DMC" McDaniels of Run-DMC lectured Tuesday at Tate about the evolution of rap and hip-hop. We're excited the University Union brought in such an interesting speaker, and hope we continue to see '80s and '90s icons throughout the semester. Hello, Zack Morris?

Money matters

Although we're not thrilled $26.6 million is going to a special collections library, we understand the University has no control over what certain donations fund. We do hope, however, that the University spends its "restoration funding" on things important to students and relevant to higher education.

Cheers!

As we look forward to Saturday's football game against Georgia Southern, we'd like to take this opportunity to show our support for the team. We may be upset with ticket allocations, but we'll never stop supporting our Bulldogs - in the stadium or out. Sic 'em!

Did u hear?

Barack Obama's campaign text messaged supporters his selection of Joe Biden as the Democratic running mate last Saturday morning. We know college students love texting, and we hope the campaign tactic encouraged political discussion on campus.

Get smart

As the Bulldogs take the field for the first time this season, it's easy to get caught up in all the excitement. Remember to use your head when it comes to your safety before, during and after the game. If you're smart about staying safe, you'll have a much better time cheering the Dogs to victory.

Quote of the week: "I wanted to name it Juju just because it's like Uga, it's something unique. Uga is unique. Uga? What does Uga stand for? What does Juju stand for? I'll just tell you it's my initials."
